How ya gonna call?
You will need to check with your telephone provider to see if you have the ability to use your phone and if you can send text messages while abroad. Most Americans don’t sign up for this service and only find out once they are in Europe. So please check.
In any case, sending texts (SMS) can be costly. Making phone calls is insanely expensive. That’s because of roaming charges. In fact, make sure you set your smartphone so that the data roaming is turned off.
If you have a smartphone, we suggest downloading both WhatsApp and Viber. Both let you send texts and make and receive calls via internet when there's a connection - for free. However, these apps also use 3G networks when there is no WiFi connection, and that means data roaming.

Tickets can be purchased at a ticket counter, ticket vending machine, Tabaktrafik shops, or online. Be sure to validate your ticket before your journey!

From the Vienna Airport to the Austria Trend Hotel
Taxi: This is, as you may have guessed, the most expensive but easiest way. It will cost you around 40€ and will take you about 30min. Cabs are right in front of the arrival gate exit.
Public Transport. There are three options:
- OPTION 1: CAT Airport Train / Public Train combination: This will take you about 50min total and cost you 12€ for the CAT Airport train ticket (11€ if you buy it online) and 2.20€ for a subway ticket.
- OPTION 2: Airport Bus: This will take you about 50min total and cost you 8€ for the Airport Bus and 2.20€ for a subway ticket.
- OPTION 3: S-Bahn: This will take you around one hour and cost you less than less than 5€.
If you want to look up the directions yourself, or if you need to get from A to B in Vienna on your own during your stay, go to the Vienna Public Transport site, type in address A and address B, and find detailed directions! (NOTE: if you want to look up your way to or from the airport, type in "Flughafen Schwechat").

From the Vienna Airport to the Diplomatic Academy
If you think you may be cutting it close to make it in time for our welcome lunch, you may want to go straight from the airport to the Diplomatic Academy. Don't worry - it's a tad closer to the airport, and a bit easier and faster to get there. Again, there are several options:
Taxi: Again: the most expensive but easiest way; around 40€, will get you there in about 30min.
Public Transport. Again, three options:
- OPTION 1: CAT Airport Train: Will take you 33min and cost you 12€ for the Airport train ticket (11€ if you buy it online) and 2.20€ for a subway ticket.
- OPTION 2: Airport Bus: This will take you about 40-45min and cost you 8€ for the Airport Bus and 2.20€ for a subway ticket.
- OPTION 3: S-Bahn: This will take you about 50min and cost you 4.40€ (the S-Bahn ticket is also valid for the subway).

From the Jewish Museum in Vienna to the Austria Trend Hotel
Follow the directions mentioned below in order to get from the Jewish Museum Vienna back to your hotel.This should take around 20 minutes.
1. Walk from the Jewish Museum Vienna to the metro station Stephansplatz.
2. Take the red line metro (U1) in direction Reumannplatz and get out at the stop Südtiroler Platz/Hauptbahnof. This should take 5 min.
3. From the metro stop it is a 3 min walk to your hotel. Just take the exit Südtiroler Platz (Weyringergasse) and walk down the street (Favoritengasse) for 270 meter.
PRAGUE
Prague Public Transport Info
From the Austrian Ambassador's Residence to the Hotel B&B
To get rom the Austrian Ambassador's residence back to the hotel, it will take you approximately 30 minutes and cost 24 CZK. Follow the directions below.
1.) When you leave the residence, turn right on Kanovnická. Continue onto U Brusnice. Turn left onto Mestský Okruh/Patockova.
2.) Stay on the south side of the street and wait at the Vozovna Stresovice transit stop. Catch tram 1 Spojovaci seven stops. Get off at Vltavska stop.
3.) Go into the Vltavska metro station. Take the C line toward Háje 2 stops. Get off at Florenc.
4.) Walk east on Krizikova. Turn left on Prvniho pluku and walk about 250m. The hotel will be on the left.
BERLIN

To and From the Konrad Adenauer Foundation
This is a 10 minute walk.
To the foundation:
When you walk out of the hotel, turn left onto Lutzowplatz. After about 20 meters, be sure to stay to the right to stay on Lutzowplatz. Stay on the street as it turns into Herkulesbrucke and then Klingelhoferstrasse. Turn right onto Tiergartenstrasse, and the Foundation will be on the right after 70 meters.
To the hotel:
When you walk out of the Foundation, turn left onto Tiergartenstrasse. After about 70 meters, turn left onto Klingelhoferstrasse. Stay on it as it turns first into Herkulesbrucke and then Lutzowplatz. Stay left to remain on Lutzoplatz and the hotel will be on the right after about 90 meters.
From the Friedrich Ebert Foundation to Hotel Berlin
This is a 10 minute walk.
When you exit the foundation, turn left and head south on Hiroshimastrasse towards Reichpietschufer. Turn left onto Reichspietschufer. After about 60 meters take a sharp right onto Herkulesufer. After another 60 meters take a sharp left onto Hiroshimasteg. After about 100 meters take a slight right onto Lutzowufer. After 220 meters turn left onto Lutzowplatz. After about 200 meters turn right to stay on Lutzowplatz. The hotel will be on the left.
From the German Foreign Office to Hotel Berlin
1.When you leave the office turn left onto Werderscher Markt. Turn left onto Oberwallstrasse. Turn right onto Hausvogteiplatz. The U-Bahnhof Hausvogetiplatz station will be on your right.
2. Take the U2 towards Olympia-Stadion. Get off at Nollendorfplatz.
3. When you exit the station, be sure to head north toward Bülowstrasse and continue onto Karl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Strasse. Continue onto Einemstrasse. Take a slight left onto Lützowplatz. The hotel will be on the left.
From the Jewish Museum in Berlin to Hotel Berlin
1. When you leave the museum, turn left on Lindenstrasse. Turn right on Gitschiner Strasse and you will come to the U-Bahn Hallesches Tor station.
2. Catch the U1 towards Uhlandstrasse. Get off at Nollendorfplatz.
3. When you exit the station, be sure to head north toward Bülowstrasse and continue onto Karl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Strasse. Continue onto Einemstrasse. Take a slight left onto Lützowplatz. The hotel will be on the left.
From Hotel Berlin to Berlin Tegel Airport
1.When you leave the hotel, cross the street and then walk left. Keep right to stay on Lützowplatz. Up Lützowplatz will be a bus stop.
2. Catch bus number 106 (U Seestr.) to stop Turmstr./Beusselstr. (11 minutes, 7 stops).
3. From there catch bus TXL (Flughafen Tegel Airport) and that will take you straight to the airport (10 minutes, 3 stops).
From Hotel Berlin to Schönefeld Airport
1. When you leave the hotel, head right on Lützowplatz and continue right onto Einemstrasse. Continue straight when it turns into Karl-Heinrichstrasse. Stay left and continue onto Nollendorfplatz. Nollendorfplatz turns slightly left and becomes Bülowstrasse. Nollendorfplatz U-bahn station will be on your right.
2. Take the U4 towards S+U Innsbrucker Platz. Get off at Innsbruckerplatz.
3. Get on the S45 (Flughafen Berlin Schönefeld Bhf). This will take you to Schönefeld airport.
